Education is a service that may vary depending on unique cultures introduced by different organizations. This uniqueness depends on the discipline, ethics and attitudes developed within the organization. These values are included in the code of conduct of the organization. Code of conduct is a list of rules and regulations which direct its members the way they should follow. All the students, parents, academic and non-academic staff are bound by the code of conduct.

1. Uniform
   Gold and Brown is the color theme used for the JMC uniforms. It is compulsory that the girls and boys to wear the uniform decided by the management during the school hours. Students attending extra classes on weekdays, weekends and during school vacation should be in the school uniform. No other fancy clothing is allowed under any circumstance.
   • Daily Uniform
     Males
     • Pre-School Students
       Male students in Pre-School should wear the JMC Pre-School T-Shirts, wear brown colour shorts and wear black shoes with white socks.
     • Grade 01 to Grade 06 Students
       The Male students up to Grade 6 should wear brown colour shorts, beige colour short sleeve shirts with printed logo on the left pocket, the brown colour necktie should be tied around the neck and wear black shoes with white socks.
     • Grade 07 and above
       All male students from Grade 6 upwards are required to wear brown long trousers, beige colour short sleeve shirts with printed logo on the left pocket, the brown colour necktie should be tied around the neck and wear black shoes with white socks.
     • Prefects
       All male senior prefects are required to wear brown trousers, beige colour shirts with long sleeves, printed logo on the left pocket and the brown colour necktie tied around the neck and wear black shoes with white socks.

     Females

     • Pre-School Students
       Female students in Pre-School should wear the JMC Pre-School T-Shirts, wear brown colour skirts and wear black shoes with white socks.
     • Grade 1 to Grade 5 Students
       Female students from Grade 1 to Grade 5 – A brown skirt up to knee and beige blouse with printed JMC logo on the left pocket, the brown colour necktie should be tied around the neck and wear black shoes with white socks.
     • Grade 6 and above
       Grade 6 up wards- A brown skirt up to knee level, beige blouse with printed JMC logo on the left pocket, the brown colour necktie should be tied around the neck and wear black shoes with white socks.
     • Muslim Girls
       Muslim girls can wear beige top, brown bottom and brown farada.
   • Other Activity Uniform
     JMC has designed a track bottom and a T-shirt to wear for the sports and other extra-curricular activities. For the extra-curricular activities such as Cadetting, Scouting and Girl Guiding the students should wear those due uniforms
2. Hair
   Students should comb or brush their hair in a decent and an acceptable manner. Styling, dying, tinting, layering, ironing, bleaching, inappropriate fashions and streaking are not permitted.
   • Girls
     Long hair must have two plaits, and use only brown color ribbons. Any other color ribbons or fancy slides are not allowed. Short haired girls must either keep the hair short or tie in to two plaits. Long hair must always be at the back.
   • Boys
     Boys should trim their hair. Neither too long nor too short. Cuts like mushroom, spike cut, step cut, etc. and bald heads are not allowed. Facial hair should be shaved.
3. Jewelry and Make-Up
   • Students should not wear Jewelry other than plain watches with black straps.
   • Girls may wear small ear studs, only one on each ear lobe. Long earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, etc. are not allowed.
   • Boys are not allowed to wear ear studs.
   • Hand and body painting and tattoos are not allowed.
4. Punctuality and Attendance
   Student must report to school before 7.20 a.m. Without prior permission from the Principal, students are not allowed to leave the school premises during school hours. An excuse letter must be submitted to the class teachers when a student is getting absents from school.
   • In case of a continuance absence, within five days a written note should be sent to the Principal
   • Medical or private appointments should be made after school hours.
   • Parents should visit the school only on Wednesdays to meet the Principal and Manager after making a prior appointment unless it’s an emergency or to pay the school fees. Parents can meet the Class teacher or Subject teacher only on Wednesdays within on hour after the school time.
5. Latecomers
   • Students who arrive after 7.30 a.m. are considered as latecomers, and they must report to the Principal, Vice Principal or Manager.
   • The name will be marked in the register with the reason for lateness.
   • Attendance should be marked by the class teachers at the beginning of the first period.
   • Students getting late very often will be acknowledged to the parents by a letter of notification.
   • Class teacher should take necessary steps to improve the attendance of students.
6. Personal and Lost Property
   • School will not take any responsibility for the loss of any personal property or money.
   • Students should not bring any electronic gadgets or valuable items to school unless a teacher has requested to bring it for an education purpose.
   • If a valuable thing is found it should be handed over to the Vice Principal or a senior teacher. It will be handed back to the owner after verifying the correct identification.
7. Prohibited Materials
   Bringing following materials are strictly prohibited,
   • Obscene literature (Blue ray, DVD and CD)
   • Inappropriate novels, magazines or newspapers
   • Any equipment that could be used in violence
   • Cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, intoxicants etc.
   • Mobile phones, tabs, flash drives etc.
   • Perfumes, toiletries, make up, chewing gum

   If such prohibited item found, the Parents will be informed and strict disciplinary actions will be taken against the relevant student(s).

8. Environment
   • Students should keep the classroom and outside premises clean and tidy.
   • All the disposals should be put in the litter bins separated for paper, polythene and food.
   • Walls inside and outside should be kept clean.
   • Student shall not write or draw anything on walls.
   • Students shall not damage the doors and windows when opening and closing them.
   • Students should take care of trees, plants and bushes in the school compound and should not harm any of them.
   • Students shall not throw litter out of the windows.
9. Discipline in the Laboratories, Computer and Subject Rooms.
   • Walking around and unnecessary talk in these areas are prohibited.
   • Students should not touch any equipment in the laboratories without the permission of the teacher-in-charge.
   • Any act of indiscipline in a laboratory will be treated as a punishable offence.
   • All students should abide by the rules and regulations of the laboratory.
   • Damaging laboratory furniture and equipment is a punishable offence and the particular student must reimburse the amount of money required for the relevant loss.
10. Discipline in the Library
    • Absolute silence should be maintained in the library
    • Students should not bring any other books into the Library
    • Books or material should not be taken out of the Library without the permission of the Librarian
    • Students should abide by the Rules and regulations of the Library
    • Willfully damaging Library equipment and materials is a punishable offence and the particular student must reimburse the money for the relevant loss.
11. Discipline in the Playground
    • Students should take the utmost care of each other’s safety whilst in the playground
    • Playing cricket with a hard ball should only be done with the supervision of the Cricket Coach. It is considered a serious offence to violate this requirement.
    • Students should take good care of the sports facilities provided by the school. Any material damaged deliberately by a student should be replaced by him/her
    • Students are prohibited to use the playground during class time unless accompanied by a teacher.
12. Discipline at the School Bus or Van
    • Students should maintain the discipline while travelling.
    • They are not allowed to use inappropriate language, make unnecessary noise and shout.
    • Students should refrain from disturbing the driver and conductors.
    • Students are not allowed to bring flash drives and CD’s to be played in the buses.
    • Students should not damage the seats or any other item in buses or vans.
13. Use of washrooms
    • Washrooms should be used with concern for the convenience of other students
    • Students should only use the washrooms assigned to their classes
    • Toilets should be flushed and kept clean after use
    • Students should refrain from using the washrooms during class time unless it is urgent
    • Playing with water and disturbing other’s privacy is strictly prohibited
14. Use of water taps and wash basins
    • Each student must take a serviette when going to the tap wash their hands
    • Soon after washing student must wipe the hands without spilling water on the floor
    • Water taps and other equipment should not be damaged and must be turned off after use.
15. Health Habits
    In order to prevent the students from diseases and maintain good health conditions the following rules should be adhered to.
    • Under ill-health conditions such as cough and cold each student must use a handkerchief when sneezing, coughing, yawning or talking to another person.
    • It’s advisable to refrain from attending school in such situations. A medicated face mask can be permitted in unavoidable circumstances such as sitting for the term test while being sick
16. Main Foyer
    • Students are not allowed to loiter around the main school offices and lobby area without a valid reason.
    • Talking is not allowed in the Main Foyer. It is a common area for visitors and parents. Students should leave the area as quickly as possible.
    • Students should not use the chairs in this area unless unavoidable.
    • Students shall not use the Principal’s, Manager’s or accountant’s chair.
17. Use of Telephone
    • Use of the school telephone by students should be limited to urgent calls, with the permission from the Class Teacher or Vice Principal.
    • A register is used to regulate calls made by students.
18. Conversation
    • Students must converse with each other only in English. The language should be pleasant and acceptable.
    • Foul language, slang and inappropriate words are not allowed in school.
    • Students can speak Sinhala or Tamil only during those respective language classes.
    • Language used in the corridors, playgrounds, washrooms and all other school premises should be acceptable English.
19. Behavior in Classrooms and Other Areas
    • Student’s behavior should conform to the ethical standards expected in the classroom.
    • It is prohibited to indulge in personal conversation during lessons.
    • Disturbing, disobeying and violence is strictly prohibited.
    • Students should not leave the class or go to the washroom etc. during change of periods.
    • If it is very urgent they may go to the washroom with the permission of the teacher and an exit card should be obtained.
    • Students should have their food in the classroom and not in the corridors etc.
    • Physical contact between students (except handshake) is not allowed
    • Acts of physical intimacy like walking with arms on shoulders, pinching etc. are not allowed within school premises
    • Willful damaging of any school property (vandalism) is a punishable offence. Costs for the damage done will be recovered from the particular student.
    • All lights, fans etc. should be switched off when leaving the classroom
20. Parent/Teacher Communication Book
    • All students should buy and use the Communication Book as instructed
    • A student is required to keep the Communication Book in his/her possession on each and every school day.
